MEET
HAYDEN GORE

Hayden Gore is a bilingual educator in his 18th year in public education. He currently teaches sixth grade Humanities at High Tech Middle Chula Vista, where he has worked for the past 9 years.

In 2021, Hayden worked with colleagues to found the High Tech Education Collective (HTEC), the union representing more than 700 educators and support staff across High Tech High. He was elected HTEC’s first president and served in that role for four years.

Under his leadership, educators and school staff secured their first-ever collective bargaining agreements, raising pay by over 17%, expanding sick and personal leave, and establishing protections for school workers. This work has helped make High Tech High a more sustainable place for educators to work, bringing more stability and consistent support for students.

Hayden earned his undergraduate degree in Government from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s in International Human Rights from the University of Denver. He began his teaching career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala, where he and his wife Lisa taught in the rural schools of San José Poaquil and Santa Apolonia, Chimaltenango. Before joining High Tech High, Hayden spent five years in Lima, Peru, where he directed the International Training Program for the Peruvian Forensic Anthropology Team.

Outside the classroom, Hayden enjoys camping with his family, surfing near their home in Ocean Beach, and reading books from the San Diego Public Library. His wife Lisa is a teacher-librarian at Poway High School. They have two sons, James and Jude. James is a sophomore in college, and Jude is a junior in high school.

Hayden would be honored to serve the San Diego community where he has raised his sons and taught young people for nearly a decade, advocating for students, families, and educators on the school board representing District C.
